A Story of Wheel Love

Marilyn B. Dale the sentient being started at her birth in the Bronx. Marilyn B. Dale the potter, started when she was kicked out of her first class.
“The teacher asked me to leave, actually… Saying that I had no talent. I guess I’m always one for a challenge!

A few years later a friend brought me to a small pottery studio in Hoboken, I think… (It was a long time ago!) Anyway, I centered my first piece of clay there and fell madly in love with it. It took me one year to center again!”

When she moved from New York City to the Hudson Valley of New York to start a family, she realized she faced an important decision for her family between painter or a potter. I chose “potter” for many reasons of spirit. However… One huge  basic reason was a painting lasts forever and functional pottery ,which is used a lot, can break. Then perhaps I’d be lucky enough to sell another pot! “

Stubbornly, Marilyn carved a small studio in her home in Warwick New York after learning about creating Pottery in New York City. Soon a person showed up at my door wanting to learn how to make pottery. He brought his daughter, the daughter brought a friend. My school, the Warwick Pottery Studio, was born in 1990.

Lately Marilyn has returned to her private studio. After so many years teaching, Marilyn has returned her roots to examine influences in her life. For instance, a study of ancient Hebrew texts by the commentator known as Rashi has led her to explore making wine Vessels for his vineyard. By the way, Rashi was a medieval period Rabbi. Marilyn says that she can absorb more of his teachings while working on vessels he might have enjoyed. It’s a way to sink into these very profound lessons of life.
